Nonfinancial public sector debt represents the 49.0% of GDP

As of February 28th, 2026, the nonfinancial public sector (NFPS) external and domestic debt totaled US$64,828.9 million. This amount represents 49.0% of the estimated GDP.

The 74.4% of the NFPS total debt corresponds to external debt, which presented a balance of US$48,213.4 million, while the remaining 25.6% corresponds to domestic debt, which totaled RD$996,689.4 million, equivalent to US$16,615.6 million, at the exchange rate of RD$/US$=59.9853. These amounts represent 36.5% and 12.6% of the estimated GDP, respectively. Of the total domestic debt, US$2,206.6 million (1.7% of GDP) corresponds to intergovernmental bonds debt issued by the Central Government for the recapitalization of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic. The intergovernmental debt is that contracted by one government institution with another.
